 Questions

Personal and intrapersonal barriers to dance participation include poor self-esteem and communication abilities, reduced motor skills, low baseline levels of physical activity, and feelings of exclusion (Ito, Hiramoto and Kodama 2017;Whatley 2007).

One of the most effective means of overcoming barriers to dance training appears to be the establishment of local and national networks in the integrated dance sector in order to build progression routes, increase the visibility of integrated dance, signpost young people to activities and provide enrichment in academic, physical, emotional and psychological terms.

Differences Between Studios and Schools

Studios stress technique and performance, while school classes are comprehensive and emphasize learning about a wide variety of dance styles. Private studios train committed dancers, while school classes introduce all students to dance in order to strengthen their bodies and self-esteem.

Research and anecdotal evidence indicate that dance education contributes to students' physical, emotional, and social well-being by providing a method of physical awareness and fitness, an outlet for creativity and personal expression, and a means to develop social-emotional skills, such as self-management.

  • Negative past experience.
  • Personal mindsets.
  • Lack of a sense of community.
  • Lack of purpose.
  • Distracting office environment. ...
  • Lack of technical skills.
  • Boredom.

6. Why learners with barriers may struggle with music and dance?

The research found that difficult choices are often made between music, dance and other subjects or activities. Generally, it was acknowledged that music was not valued as highly as more academic subjects and therefore students were often directed to other option choices. The same may apply to dance studies as well.

7. What are the challenges that you encountered in doing the dance steps?

The 3 biggest challenges I see are:
  • Dancers feeling too much pressure and having problems managing expectations.
  • Comparison and low self-worth.
  • Body image issues.

  • Show different approaches to a task, movement or problem solving exercise.
  • Allow exploratory learning by encouraging students to talk about ideas and processes.
  • Use positive approaches that give students information, confidence, encouragement and a willingness and desire to practice and improve their dance skills.

Risk factors for dance injury include previous history of injury, insufficient skills in coping with stress, low body mass index (BMI) and fat levels, risky movements and technique, and over-training. Having a previous injury increases the risk of subsequent injury for dancers.

10.  How does modern technology affect the development of dance in our country at present?

Technology can be used in dance as a creative tool through sensors to control music and video sequences and bringing dancers from different geographic regions together for performances.

The structure of almost any dance class can be distilled down into the following template:

Generic warm-up, followed by a style-specific warm-up. Preparatory exercises to introduce and break down stylistic movement patterns, actions and sensibilities (often emphasizing alignment and technical concepts).

12.  What would a student gain as a result of participating in a dance unit?

Dance burns calories, strengthens muscles, improves balance, increases flexibility, and gives the heart a good workout. Dance has also been proven to increase cognitive development.

13.  Why should dance be included in the curriculum?

Dance improves young people's physical & mental well-being. It's obvious that dance has physical benefits – as a form of exercise it is highly physical and great for young people's health. Children that take up dancing regularly can significantly improve their fitness, wellness, flexibility, strength and stamina!

14. How do you integrate dance in the classroom?

How To Incorporate Music and Dance Into Lessons
  1. Host a classroom dance.
  2. Create a class playlist.
  3. Use lyrics to enrich a lesson.
  4. Don't be afraid to infuse arts in academics.

15.  What are three major barriers to teaching?

  • 06 Apr 10 Barriers to Education and How to Overcome Them.
  • A lack of funding for education. ...
  • Non-availability of teachers and a shortage of trained teachers.
  • Shortage of classroom.
  • Lack of learning materials.
  • Challenges faced by children with disabilities.
  • Disadvantaged by gender.

16. How teachers deal with barriers to learning?

Getting over barriers to learning requires a solid connection to what is being taught through relevance to the learner. Connection to something relevant to students ensures real learning will take place. When you prepare to teach a topic or concept, ask yourself where your students may encounter it outside school.
